Putting up the Christmas tree

Look at what a big helper Olivia can be. She's checking the lights on the bottom of the tree while cooing a Christmas carol.

Look who's 4 months old

December 4th Olivia turned 4 months old. Time is flying by. She's now rolling over, kicking like crazy and grabbing her hands, toys and feet. Her head control is awesome and for some reason she loves tummy time. Next stop - crawling - yikes!

First Christmas outfit

Olivia's first Thanksgiving

Olivia spent her first Thanksgiving in Dallas meeting more of her family. Luckily, we made the FIVE hour trek along I35 (the highway of death) without too much trouble. Thursday morning, we got up and went with Mimi, Aunt Christie, Kate (Christie's friend) and Charlie, the dog, to the annual Turkey Trot. It's been a family tradition for many years and it was so exciting for Olivia to take part in the fun. This was her first time to meet Aunt Christie. They had a blast. Thankfully the weather was really nice, but she was bundled up, just in case.

After the Turkey Trot,
Nana came over and we
sat down for our first
Thanksgiving meal of
the day. We took a four
generation photo to
commemorate the event.

After Mimi's, we went over to Sue and Dan's new house for some delicious Thanksgiving pies. The Cowboy game was on and the kids were having a ball playing dressup. Everyone was in good spirits, including Olivia.

I actually went out and shopped on Black Friday. I needed some jeans to wear for the winter and of course nothing is fitting me yet so I braved the crowds at Firewheel. I'll never do it again, but I did get a couple of good deals and have jeans that fit for the foreseeable future. ;-)

Anna and Mia provided lots of entertainment for the rest of our weekend. Brady, Heather and Matt also came over to play. Olivia was thrilled because she gets such a kick out of looking at Brady's photo on our frig. She was beaming!

We got up early Sunday morning and headed back to Austin. Only took the normal three hours - whew! Can't wait to see all of you again over Christmas.

Happy Halloween!!

Olivia and I were invited over to Krista's house to go trick-or-treating. So Ryan, aka Rafeal the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Krista, Dayna, Olivia and I all walked around their 'hood. Ryan did great knocking on the doors and getting lots of good candy. Eventually Olivia fell asleep as we went door-to-door.

Dayna and Krista were super nice to hold Olivia most of the night. She really enjoyed all of the action going on in Krista's house.

Olivia's first crush

While we were in Dallas last week, Olivia discovered a new friend she adores. A big thank you to Cousin Anna who thought to bring Pablo over to entertain her. Pablo is a character on the show Backyardigans. The toy Pablo sings and dances when you press his flipper. Olivia can't stop herself from smiling and cooing when she sees and hears him. Just watch her flop around, grinning from ear to ear.

Are you ready for some football

We went to Eric and Stacey's house to watch Monday night football. Pete was still in town from ACL so we cooked out. It was Olivia's first trip of many to come over to the Langhouts. This video gives you a glimpse into their house. Hilarious!

ACL Fest

This weekend the Austin City Limits Music Fest was held in Zilker Park. I've gone every year since it started, but obviously this year's fest was different. I bought a one day pass for Friday, back in May, because the Beastie Boys were going to be the big act of the night. Then MCA was diagnosed with throat cancer so of course they cancelled their tour. Bummer!

Anyway, Eric, Stacey, the kids and I made our way to Zilker. Pete and Susie were also with us. The grass at the park was like golf coarse grass. You could walk barefoot. We listened to Medeski, Martin & Wood (jam band) then a couple songs of a couple other bands I've never heard of. Then it was time to go according to my body. By Sunday, the park was a miserable mud fest after tons of rain on Saturday. But I heard Pearl Jam was amazing to wrap up the festival. Hopefully I'll be back for a full weekend next year!

Olivia is 8 weeks old. She loves the mornings, unlike her mom and dad, listen to all of the cooing!

Olivia's first outing

This afternoon Olivia went on her first public outing! Of course, it was to Target. She had a marvelous time and fell asleep almost instantly once I put her in the cart. Hooray! Can't wait to try it again.

Anna & Mia visit

Anna, Mia, Amy & Mik stopped by the house on their way to Sea World. It was the first time the girls all met. Anna was very helpful in lulling Olivia to sleep with the rattle. Mia was busy checking everything out and visiting with our dog, Bailey and our cat, Sam. Can't wait for them to spend more time together.

Changing table

I had to write a post about the magic of the changing table in Olivia's world. She can be in a fussy, grumpy mood then you take her to her changing table and her whole demeanor changes. Next thing you know, she'll be cooing and smiling at you. She gets so excited she'll kick her legs and swing her arms around wildly. It makes us melt to see her happiness.

Sunday with Aunt Kim &Ben

Kim and Ben came to Austin on Sunday to spend the day with us. Olivia and Kim spent lots of time bonding at the changing table. Playing on the activity mat was also a hit. Ben filled his day by trying to learn how to solve the rubick's cube. Lucky for me, Kim was nice enough to cook a delicious dinner topped off with some homemade chocolate chip cookies. You guys rock! Olivia hopes you come back soon.

Aunt Amy meets Olivia

Amy and Olivia had their first meeting Thursday night. She fell asleep in Amy's arms like a sweet angel and sleep 4 hours at a stretch through the night. At that point, Amy was probably thinking we were exaggerating about Olivia's tough nights then Friday night came along. Amy, Rob and I took turns trying to get her to sleep. We tried everything - bouncing on the bed, singing to her, the swing, walking her through the house in the stroller, the rocking chair, holding her in every position known to man. Finally around 2:00 am she gave in and went to sleep.

We really appreciated all your help Amy!!!! Thanks to Anna and Mia for letting us borrow their mommy for a couple of days.

4 weeks old!!

Big day for Olivia - 4 weeks old. We went to the pediatrician and she had to get her Hep B shot. Ouch! She was not to pleased with the nurse. She had purple face and screamed at the top of her lungs. Of course, Mommy cried watching her be in pain. The doctor was very pleased with her growth. She weighs 9 lbs. 10 oz (65%) and is 22 inches in length (80%). How do Rob and I have a baby that's in the 80% in height??? She continues to become more interactive with us....smiling, cooing and following you with her eyes.

Mimi's first visit

Mimi came on Friday to stay with us for the weekend. We had lots of fun all together. We went for our first stroller ride on Saturday morning. Bailey was so happy to finally get back to our walks. Check her out trying to sleep on Charlie's (Mimi's dog) bed. Rob was working all weekend so it was nice to have someone there share the workload with. Mimi showed off her gourmet skills and cooked me breakfast, lunch and dinner. She also gave me a break and took Olivia for the nights. We can't wait to see her again!

Grandpa!

Olivia was so happy for her Grandpa to come to see her. On my side of the family, we don't have any grandpas so it's very special to have Rob's dad. Look how relaxed she is on his shoulder. With Grandpa around, you don't have to worry about going hungry. He was so nice to go grocery shopping and pick up food for us anytime we needed it. What a huge help! We also enjoyed watching the Rangers games together.

Grandmommy's here

Grandmommy came to stay with us for our first few days. Thank you!!!! Olivia spent lots of time sleeping in her lap and on her shoulder in the rocking chair. It was a team effort to give Olivia her first sponge bath. She wasn't too crazy about it at the beginning, but she did enjoy it once we turned her over onto her stomach. I got to sleep longer in between night feedings because Grandmommy took Olivia to her bedroom and put her to sleep. I was so excited to get some much needed shut eye. We also had a good time taking videos, pictures, getting the webcam to work and discussing how Rob and Amy were as babies. See you again soon!

The Bereuter Dress

Big Gaga handmade this dress for her kids to wear home from the hospital. All 12 Bereuter kids wore the dress starting with Grandpa over 60 years ago. Since then almost all of the grandkids and great grandkids have worn the dress home as well. We are so honored to be a part of the family history.

We are family

As you can see, we're all a little tired after our big day.

Mimi, Grandmommy, Grandpa and Aunt Kim all greeting Olivia for the first time. Aunt Sue, Krista, Sheila and Trent were also there for our first night together.

It's a girl!!

Olivia finally arrived at 5:00 pm sharp, just in time for happy hour! Everything went smoothly with the delivery. Mommy and Daddy were very relieved to have a happy, healthy, beautiful baby girl.

Leaving for the hospital

Here we go! The next time we come home we'll have our little son or daughter in our arms. It has been a long 41 weeks, but we've finally reached the end of one phase and are about to start the next one. Mom and Kim are coming to meet us at the hospital and help pass the time until the morning.
